The Long View

Terms of service

About these terms

These terms apply to your use of The Long View at https://longview.me.uk, which is run privately by its administrator ("the administrator"). By signing in and using the site, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

In short: not financial advice, and the results may be wrong. This is a modelling tool for illustration only. Its results are estimates that depend on the figures you enter and on assumptions, simplified tax rules and third-party data that may be wrong or out of date, so they may be inaccurate for your circumstances. Check anything important, and take advice from a regulated financial adviser, before making any decision.

Who can use the site

The site is for people the administrator has invited. You need a Google account to sign in and you are responsible for keeping it secure. The administrator can remove anyone's access at any time.

Not financial advice

The site is a modelling tool for illustration and education only. Nothing on it is financial, investment, tax, pension or legal advice, or a recommendation (personal or otherwise) to buy, sell or hold any investment, to take any action, or to make any decision. It does not take account of your full circumstances, needs, objectives or attitude to risk.

The administrator is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and does not give advice. Before making financial decisions, get advice from a regulated financial adviser (you can check a firm on the FCA register). For free, impartial government-backed guidance on pensions and money, see MoneyHelper, including Pension Wise.

The results may be wrong

Projections and simulations are estimates, not predictions or guarantees. They may be inaccurate, incomplete or misleading, for example because:

Past performance is not a guide to future returns. Simulations show a range of possible outcomes, not every possible outcome, and real results can be better or worse than anything shown. The value of investments can fall as well as rise, and you may get back less than you put in. Check any figure that matters independently before relying on it.

No warranty

The site is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, no warranty, guarantee or promise of any kind is given about its accuracy, completeness, reliability, availability or fitness for any purpose.

Your responsibility

You are solely responsible for the figures you enter, for checking the results, and for any decisions you make or do not make. You use the site at your own risk.

Your information and backups

Your scenarios are stored in your browser on your device and, if you choose, in your own Google Drive. You are responsible for keeping copies: save them to your Google Drive where that is offered, or export them to files. The administrator cannot see or recover them. The privacy policy explains how information is handled.

Acceptable use

Changes and availability

The site is free. The administrator may change, suspend or close it at any time, and may update these terms; the current version will always be on this page.

Liability

As far as the law allows, the administrator is not liable for any loss or damage of any kind, including financial loss, investment loss, loss of profit, tax charges or penalties, or loss of data, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the site; from any error, inaccuracy or omission in it or in the data it uses; or from any decision you make or do not make based on it. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded under the law of England and Wales.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute.
